Pediatric eye doctor
A child's visual system has very special issues. It develops and changes quickly starting with the first months of life. It is important to have your child's eye examined during every stage of life. It is also important for parents to stay alert, to notice the first sign of a problem and have their child's vision examined. It is recommended that the child be examined by a pediatric optometrist rather than a pediatric ophthalmologist. Children should have their vision checked by their eye doctor using a wall chart or optical tester at 3-4 years of age.
The American Optometric Association recommends that children have their eye examined by six months. The child's vision should be checked in infancy in case of childhood cataracts, amblyopia or signs of developmental delay. A skilled eye doctor can quickly effect changes with intervention.
